"Where words fail, music speaks": once quoted by Hans Christian Anderson, the wording perfectly encapsulates the essence of Islamic song. Birthed on Sri Lankan shores in 2017 and co-founded by Haadia Galely (Executive Director) and Professor André de Quadros (Artistic Director, Composer), we marked our debut in the public eye with two consecutive performances in Colombo. As friends, family and well-wishers gathered under one roof in anticipation of our collective Voice and new-found artistry, musical traditions of the Muslim world rang through the air, laden with naats, hamds and Sufi-style qawaalis. Having being established as an ensemble uniquely unconventional at the Russian Cultural Centre, we stepped into the lush gardens of The Sooriya Village for a second launch, exclusively exposing music of such powerful calibre to ardent music enthusiasts.
